Frederic H. Moll, M.D.
Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Frederic Moll, M.D., co-founded Hansen Medical in 2002, bringing with him more than 20 years of medical device and high technology experience. Dr. Moll has served as the company’s CEO and a director since the company’s inception in September 2002. In 1995, Dr. Moll founded Intuitive Surgical Inc., and served as the company’s first CEO. Intuitive Surgical is the world leader in surgical robotics and is a publicly traded company on NASDAQ. Prior to Intuitive Surgical, Dr. Moll co-founded Origin Medsystems, Inc., which later became an operating company within Guidant Corporation following the acquisition by Eli Lily in 1992. Dr. Moll served as medical director of Guidant’s surgical device division from 1992 – 1995. Before co-founding Origin Medsystems, Dr. Moll invented the safety trocar, which fostered in modern general laparoscopic surgery and he founded Endotherapeutics, which was acquired by U.S. Surgical in 1992.
Dr. Moll holds a bachelor of arts degree in economics from the University of California at Berkeley, a master of science degree in management from Stanford University, and a medical degree from the University of Washington. Dr. Moll is a distinguished speaker and lecturer, and is the author of numerous scientific articles. He currently serves on the boards of several Silicon Valley healthcare companies.

Gary C. Restani
President and Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Gary Restani joined Hansen Medical in October 2006 as president and COO, and has served as a director of the company since September 2006. Restani brings with him more than 25 years of domestic and international experience in executive management, sales and marketing within the medical industry. Most recently, he served as president of Convatec, a billion dollar division of Bristol-Myers Squibb, from 1999-2006. Under his leadership, the division expanded revenue by 62 percent and earnings by more than 100 percent. Prior to this, Restani held the position of president of European operations for Zimmer Orthopedics from 1997-1999, where he drove the business to profitability in 18 months. Previously, Restani has held executive level positions with the firms of Smith & Nephew Richards, Ingram & Bell Scientific and Menrad in Canada.
Restani attended Sir George Williams University and Loyola College, and completed the Tuck Executive Program at Dartmouth College. He is fluent in Spanish, French and Italian.

Steven M. Van Dick
Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Steven Van Dick joined Hansen Medical in December 2005 as CFO. Prior to this, he was CFO for Cryo Vascular Systems, Inc., a medical device manufacturer. Before joining Cyro in April 2001, Van Dick served as CFO for Protogene Laboratories, Inc., a DNA microarray supplier. Beginning in 1996, Van Dick was CFO for CardioThoracic Systems, Inc., a medical supply company, where Van Dick played a significant role in the completion of the merger between CTS and Guidant Corporation. Van Dick has worked in the medical imaging industry for 18 years in senior finance and administration roles. He began his career in 1978 at Main Hurdman, where he completed his certification as a CPA and gained valuable experience in audit, review, preparation of financial statements, corporate tax and evaluation of internal control systems.
Van Dick received a master of business administration degree from the University of Santa Clara, and a bachelor of science degree in business administration, with a concentration in accounting from San Jose State University.

Rob Younge
Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer (CTO)
Principal Fellow

Rob Younge joined Frederic Moll, M.D., in 2002 to co-found Hansen Medical, where he is the company’s chief technology officer. In April 2006 he was appointed Principal Fellow. Prior to this, Younge co-founded Intuitive Surgical Inc., in 1995, and held the position of CTO. In 1979, Younge co-founded Acuson Corporation, a leading ultrasound developer and manufacturer, where he served as the company’s vice president of engineering from 1979 – 1989. In 1991, Younge became the general manager of Acuson’s transducer division, where he played a strategic role in introducing the company’s first flexible endoscopic ultrasound transducers. Acuson was acquired by Siemens Medical Solutions in 2000.
Younge holds both a bachelor’s and master of science degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University.

Dan Wallace
Co-founder and Vice President of Advanced Applications

Dan Wallace joined Frederic Moll, M.D., in 2002 to co-found Hansen Medical, where he is the vice president of advanced applications. Prior to this, Wallace directed the creation and development of the robotic instruments at Intuitive Surgical, and was responsible for the group who designed, released and manufactured a suite of 13 robotically controlled surgical instruments. Before joining Intuitive Surgical, Wallace designed laparoscopic instruments for Origin MedSystems, as well as implantable high-fidelity hearing aids for Symphonic Devices. He also worked as a flight controller in Houston Mission Control for the Space Shuttle program.
Wallace received a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Rice University, and a master of science degree in mechanical engineering from Stanford University.

Sean Murphy, Ph.D.
Senior Vice President of Engineering

Sean Murphy, Ph.D., first worked with Hansen Medical as a program management consultant beginning in November 2005, and in April 2006 he joined the company as senior vice president of engineering. From 2000 to 2005, Dr. Murphy was vice president of engineering for Siemens Medical Solutions Ultrasound Division, where he led a global development team responsible for the company’s line of ultra-premium diagnostic ultrasound products. From 1992 to 2000, Dr. Murphy was employed by Acuson Corporation, where from 1996 to 2000 he was director of engineering, responsible for next generation ultrasound products. Before joining Acuson, Dr. Murphy held various management positions and senior engineering positions at Beckman Instruments, Marconi Underwater Systems of London, England and STC in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Dr. Murphy holds a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering as well as a Ph.D. in speech processing from the University of Ulster, Northern Ireland.

Christopher Sells
Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations

Christopher Sells joined Hansen Medical in June 2008 as the company’s senior vice president of commercial operations. Sells brings with him 21 years of experience within the medical device industry. Most recently, he served as senior vice president of the Americas for Aesthera Corporation. Prior to this, Sells was vice president of sales for Intuitive Surgical, Inc., where he was responsible for the Western United States robotic surgery business and was an integral part of the sales leadership team that built the company from an early stage start-up organization to over $400 million in revenue. While at Intuitive Surgical, Sells received consecutive U.S. vice president of the year awards. He also held senior management positions for Neotonus, Inc., Indigo Medical, Inc., LCA Vision and United States Surgical Corporation.
Sells attended Indiana University.

David M. Shaw
Senior Vice President, Business Development and General Counsel

David M. Shaw joined Hansen Medical in December 2007 as senior vice president, business development and general counsel. Shaw brings ten years of experience as an executive for medical device companies. Before joining Hansen Medical, Shaw served as vice president, legal affairs, general counsel and secretary for Kyphon Inc., a minimally invasive spine company. Prior to this, he held various senior legal positions at Intuitive Surgical, Inc.
Shaw holds a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from North Carolina State University and a law degree from Duke University School of Law. Shaw is also a recent graduate of Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program.

David Lundmark
Vice President of Intellectual Property and Legal Affairs

David Lundmark joined Hansen Medical in 2003 as vice president of intellectual property and legal affairs. Lundmark brings 14 years of experience in the high technology field, where he has served in Silicon Valley corporate and patent legal strategy capacities. Prior to joining Hansen Medical, Lundmark was a patent and corporate finance attorney at Morrison and Foerster LLP, a major international law firm, and subsequently senior vice president and general counsel with The WorkCard Company, Inc., which was acquired by Adecco SA in 2002. Before this, Lundmark was senior patent counsel with Intel Corporation. Lundmark is a member of the California Bar, the Federal Patent Bar, the American Intellectual Property Law Association and is licensed to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark office.
Lundmark holds degrees in engineering, management and law from the University of California at Davis.

Mark A. Maguire
Vice President, Structural Heart

Mark A. Maguire joined Hansen Medical in June 2008 as the company’s vice president of structural heart. Maguire brings with him more than 20 years of R&D experience in start-up, medium and large medical device companies. Most recently, Maguire served as chief technical officer at Accelerated Technologies, Inc., where he was involved in evaluation of over 100 technologies and business opportunities, due diligence and technical incubation yielding Series A investments and start-up of several medical device companies. Prior to joining ATI, Maguire served as vice president of R&D for Atrionix, a Johnson & Johnson Company. He also held senior R&D engineering positions for Pharmacyclics, Inc., Medtronic, CardioRhythm, Inc. and ACS (now Abbot Vascular).
Maguire holds a bachelor of science degree in bioengineering from the University of California at San Diego. In addition, Maguire is listed on 35 patents and has four published pending U.S. applications.

Jed Palmacci
Vice President of Sales and Service

Jed Palmacci joined Hansen Medical in 2005 as the vice president of sales and service. Prior to this, Palmacci worked for Siemens Medical Solutions Ultrasound Division, where he was the worldwide director of sales for the company’s AcuNav ultrasound catheter division and was responsible for growing the division to a $42 million per-year business over five years. Before leading the sales efforts for the AcuNav division, Palmacci was a district sales representative covering five states for Acuson Corporation, which was acquired by Siemens in 2000. Palmacci worked for Acuson, followed by Siemens from March 1989 – April 2005. Prior to this, he held territory management positions with Cooper Vision Surgical and Surgidev Corporation.
Palmacci holds a bachelor of science degree in marketing and a minor in management from the University of Maine.
