Senior Mechanical Engineer
Description
Hansen Medical is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer with 10+ years experience within a multi-disciplinary team environment developing complex electro-mechanical products. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated the ability be both a hands-on, detail oriented contributor and a participant at the architectural and product definition level. He/She must have the creativity and ability to understand clinical procedures then design complex mechanisms, make sound technical decisions, and quickly develop functional prototypes that provide benefit to the patient, physician, and hospital staff. He/she must be detail oriented and have test and documentation experience to deliver fully manufacturable products, ideally in an FDA regulated environment. He/She must be flexible enough to work independently or to lead other engineers/designers and new product introduction teams. Candidate must also have demonstrated responsible financial management while meeting project deadlines and deliverables.
Responsibilities
Lead the specification, design, manufacturability, and testing activities of company’s catheter control products at the piece part, component, and system level. Such activities will include:
- Create solid models, detail drawings, BOMs, and release documentation of mechanical parts and sub-systems.
- Perform mechanical system analysis including drive train efficiency; stress, stiffness, and fatigue life calculations; thermal analysis, tolerance analyses, and reliability prediction.
- Lead the selection of electro-mechanical system components including servo motors, encoders, sensors, brakes, solenoids, load cells, harnesses, and related electronics.
- Design to improve manufacturability and reliability of individual piece parts, system components, and sub-assemblies.
- Develop and execute test protocols to evaluate and improve component and system performance, interpret experimental results, and author test summary documentation.
- Collaborate with manufacturing to develop effective assembly processes and test fixtures.
- Work on a variety of multidisciplinary issues with electrical, software, controls, industrial design, and manufacturing engineers and Company’s supplier base.
Requirements
- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering and 10+ years applicable electro-mechanical product design experience, medical and/or robotics experience is desirable, Masters degree a plus.
- 5+ years solid modeling experience in SolidWorks and PDMworks.
- Proven analytical and problem solving skills
- Experience designing for manufacturability: machined, casting, extrusion, and molded part manufacturing process knowledge as well as assembly process optimization.
- Medical device experience a strong plus
- Analytical and FEA modeling of mechanical components and systems a plus.
- Mechanical, electrical, and control systems dynamic modeling or servo tuning a plus
- Experience leading failure mode and effects analyses of complex systems
- Skilled in mechanical system experiment design, data interpretation, and documentation.
- Strong communications and people skills, good team player
- Comfortable working in a collaborative, cross functional environment
