This position is responsible for revenue accounting activities including the review of all revenue related transactions for compliance with revenue recognition criteria. It performs and monitors accounting procedures related to product sales and complex revenue accounting activities for domestic and international sales; as well as, ensures related revenue is accurately reported in accordance with GAAP.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides revenue accounting support to the organization including review of revenue contracts and agreements prior to execution to ensure revenue is recognized in accordance with Company policy and GAAP. Acts as the internal expert in technical revenue recognition matters. Provides training to Sales staff and others on technical issues related to revenue accounting.
Develop a system for and maintains records supporting revenue recognition for all sales transactions. Ensures all required documentation is included for audit purposes. Enforces internal control / SOX procedures related to system maintenance, record keeping and documentation requirements.
Collaborates with Sales and Legal department personnel regarding key revenue recognition issues and requirements. Serves as key financial resource providing research and reporting, financial analysis and ad-hoc financial support to department managers and senior management in matters related to revenue accounting.
Responsible for customer invoicing in a timely and accurate manner.
Monitors and analyzes accounts receivable balances and assesses reserve adequacy. Updates and maintains QAD accounting system and ensures system integrity related to GL and revenue accounting. Prepares complex ad hoc and recurring reports.
Functions as primary liaison for outside auditor’s review of sales transaction files in revenue recognition audit and SOX process review.
Implements Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP) and ensures compliance with all internal policies, standard operating procedures and practices. Reviews technical literature to ensure compliance with current GAAP requirements.
Assists with SOX implementation, compliance and testing.
Projects as required.
REQUIREMENTS:
Excellent financial & computer skills, demonstrated verbal and writing skills and strong organizational skills. Team player with a high energy level and positive attitude.
Strong communication skills and ability to effectively interact with all levels within the company, and others outside the company. Very good attention to detail and analytical/problem solving skills.
Strong knowledge and extensive experience applying SOP 97-2, SAB 104, EITF 00-21 and other related authoritative sources of GAAP guidance.
Minimum of 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting with a minimum of 3 years in public accounting preferred. Significant revenue accounting exposure and expertise required.
Ability to work independently and be self-motivated. Strong work ethic.
A Bachelors degree in Accounting or equivalent discipline is required.
