This designer position involves product and process design work for disposable medical devices. The designer will work in product design, laying out concepts for new products, helping with solid modeling of composite catheter designs and creating sub assembly and full assembly models of the product as well as generating 2 D prints and documenting specifications. The designer will work with R&D engineers to create cross sectional views for tolerance analyses. They will assist in prototyping and testing the design including sourcing of materials for the initial models and designing test fixtures as required. The role also involves working with process development and tooling engineers to design fixtures, tooling and custom assembly equipment for the manufacturing line or for testing. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 4 years drafting and/or design experience in manufacturing processes or disposable medical device design with a strong emphasis on tolerancing and proficient in Solidworks.
Position Responsibilities:
Creation of 3D models of design concepts of next generation products.
Support design engineers with 3D modeling of composite catheter components and assemblies throughout the development process.
Design and development of test fixtures to test product concepts.
Creation of 2D prints and part and assembly specifications.
Work with design engineers to identify and document critical dimensions and specify parts correctly.
Creation of cross section views of parts and assemblies for tolerance analysis.
Management and upkeep of Solidworks file library.
Completion of FEA studies as required
Work with process development engineers to design fixtures/equipment for improving cycle time, yield, ergonomic layout and safety on the manufacturing line.
Working with outside vendors to customize off the shelf manufacturing and test equipment.
Contribute to product design teams on the ergonomic design of the user interface part of the product.
